Thomas Pocklington Trust strives for equality for blind and partially sighted people in every aspect of society. We are a charitable organisation with a dedicated team—over half of whom are blind or partially sighted—and more than 200 volunteers with lived experience of sight loss. Our mission is to support blind and partially sighted individuals in achieving equity and inclusion across all areas of society.
Our work centres on championing the needs and aspirations of blind and partially sighted people, acknowledging the depth and complexity of the challenges they face. These challenges are addressed both locally, through direct action led by members of our Sight Loss Councils, and nationally, by engaging with government and influencing policy.
We stepped into a world of sound and creativity at our Interactive Soundscape Workshop, specially designed by and for the Visual Impaired (VI) community. This workshop was an opportunity to discover the magic of sound, tell unique stories, and contribute to a shared vision that amplifies the voices of the VI community. This hands-on experience invites participants to explore the connection between voice, sound, and storytelling.
This short film was created by Verity to explore her experience of living in York with a visual impairment over the years. Verity was supported by Esther Irving, a VI director to develop this film from story to screen.
