West End star Jocasta Almgill will be performing as wicked fairy Carabosse in this year’s enchanting family pantomime Sleeping Beauty at York Theatre Royal.
Jocasta, who is originally from East Yorkshire, has starred in a wide range of musicals including most recently as Diana Morales in A Chorus Line (Curve/Sadler’s Wells/National Tour) and Rizzo in Grease (Dominion Theatre), for which she was nominated for the 2022 Black British Theatre Award for Best Supporting Female in a Musical and the 2023 WhatsOnStage Award for Best Supporting Performer in a Musical.
Jocasta’s credits also include The Phase (The Vaults), & Juliet (Manchester Opera House & Shaftesbury Theatre), Rent (Hope Mill Theatre), The Band Plays On (Sheffield Crucible/On Demand), West Side Story (Royal Exchange Theatre), Sunshine on Leith (West Yorkshire Playhouse and National Tour) and Dreamgirls (Savoy Theatre).
Jocasta joins a talented cast which includes CBeebies star, Jennie Dale, who will play Fairy Moonbeam and returning York Theatre Royal panto favourites Tommy Carmichael and Robin Simpson who is back once again as the Dame. Further casting to be announced.
Written by Paul Hendy and directed by Juliet Forster, York Theatre Royal’s festive extravaganza is co-produced with award-winning Evolution Productions – the same team behind previous York pantomime hits All New Adventures of Peter Pan, Jack and the Beanstalk and last year’s Aladdin.
