This three-day course is an exciting introduction to the world of physical storytelling, run by Clown Space!
Mask work is useful for all Actors, Directors, Movers, and anyone looking to become a more playful, fearless, and confident creative. It’s a tool which can help performers and creatives better understand how our body language, movement, and gestures can build narratives and show us how to tell stories in new and exciting ways.

Through a series of games and exercises we will begin to break down the key components of what makes good mask theatre; working towards building solo and group scenes that we will share with the rest of the group throughout the workshop.
If you want to do a little research on the masks we will be using, we’ll exploring three different types of mask – Neutral Mask, Larval Mask and Character Full Mask.
No prior experience is necessary – just a willingness to play, create, and discover the joy of mask work!
This course is led by James Lewis-Knight, Artistic Director of Clown Space. Clown Space was established in 2017 as a theatre company specialising in teaching Clown, Full Mask and Physical Theatre.
James trained with the prestigious Clown masters Philippe Gaulier and Carlo Jacucci in Etampes, France, as well as Mask and Clown teachers John Wright, Steve Jarand and Felipe Ortiz.
