An evening celebrating new creatives and new work
This scratch night is part of a series of creative events Futureproof are organising in 2026 to engage with 18-35 year olds in York who want to dip their toes into theatre for the first time!
The theme, Opposites Attract, comes from the idea that there are many things that give people joy, purpose, belonging, and entertainment — such as maths and science — which seem to be mutually exclusive to theatre. Futureproof are inviting creatives to consider these ostensible contrasts alongside the idea that theatre is meant to reflect our world, and/or be a tool to create new ones.
Futureproof are particularly interested in welcoming performers from different studies and professional fields other than theatre. The evening is an opportunity for creatives of all skill levels to try something new. So, if you consider yourself someone who has never performed or rarely engages with theatre this opportunity could be for you!

The Futureproof Team are a group of individuals from various creative backgrounds and walks of life who have been brought together by The York Theatre Royal to, among many things, think about how people connect to theatre, don’t connect to theatre and how that impacts the future of theatre.
