Meet the Sleeping Beauty Ensemble

We caught up with the Ensemble ahead of this year’s magical pantomime Sleeping Beauty.

Alyssia Turpin – Dance Captain

Alyssia is 24 and from Yorkshire. She has been dancing since the age of 6 at Elaine Howarth Centre Stage Dance Studio in Cleckheaton. She danced competitively in championships, Miss Heats and more, winning many titles and medals along the way.
Training: Northern Ballet School
Credits include: MOVE IT (Sadler’s Wells); Snow White and Beauty and the Beast (Carriageworks).
Most recently, Alyssia returned from Cyprus, where she spent 7 months working as a performer in Paphos at a renowned cabaret restaurant.

What are you most excited about for this year’s panto?

Working with a new company, a new theatre and spending this magical Christmas period in York!

Dream role?

A dancer on board a cruise ship, a new musical, Frozen ensemble, Matilda, the list goes on.

Any pre-show rituals?

We’ve got to do a cast circle.

 

Elijah Daniel James

Training: Urdang
Credits whilst training include: Bat Boy and American Idiot (Urdang).
Elijah is so excited to be making his professional debut in this production.

What are you most excited about for this year’s panto?

Getting to know the cast and crew!

Dream role?

I’d love to be the ribbon dancer in Wicked or an Ensemble member in West Side Story.

Any pre-show rituals?

Knock on the floor before every show.

 

Sophie Flora

Training: SLP College
Sophie is a professionally trained dancer, singer, and aerialist.
Having spent the previous year working abroad in Greece as a dancer and aerialist, she is excited to be performing back in her home city.

What are you most excited about for this year’s panto?

Performing in my first panto and being part of this lovely cast!

Dream role?

Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Any pre-show rituals?

I have some lucky earrings, and I like to do a quick kick and split!

 

Chris Morgan-Shillingford

Training: The Hammond
Credits include: The Making of Harry Potter (Warner Bros Studios); Aladdin and Jack and the Beanstalk (York Theatre Royal) and The Tempest (Storyhouse).

What are you most excited about for this year’s panto?

Being on stage again and entertaining the audiences of York!

Dream role?

Lola in Kinky Boots or an Ensemble member in The Wiz

Any pre-show rituals?

I love a cheeky power nap before a show.

 

Charlotte Rose O’Sullivan

Training: Northern Ballet School – Charlotte was part of Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures Autumn intensive as Class 2023.
Credits Include: Charlotte has recently been an Assistant Choreographer on an upcoming CBeebies project. RECEPTION: The Wedding Present Musical (Leeds Playhouse Theatre); Aladdin and Jack and the Beanstalk (York Theatre Royal); Catch Me If You Can (The Dancehouse Theatre); Sylph to Stratospheric (Northern Ballet School) and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie (Middleton Arena).

What are you most excited about for this year’s panto?

Performing with this year’s cast! And I love the little sweet packets in the cafe too.

Dream role?

Vicky Page in Matthew Bourne’s The Red Shoes

Any pre-show rituals?

Eat sweets, but no big meals before. And a lucky pre-show split

 

Jayden Tang

Training: SLP College
Theatre includes: Beetlejuice The Musical (NCL) and Aladdin (Watersmeet Theatre).
Television includes: Peaky Blinders (BBC One)
Film includes: How to Date Billy Walsh (Amazon Prime Video).

What are you most excited about for this year’s panto?

Getting to perform at York Theatre Royal!

Dream role?

Ohh, I’d love to play someone in Newsies

Any pre-show rituals?

Brush my teeth
