York Literature Festival is delighted to launch The York Festival of Hauntology.
For its debut year, we present a series of events on the topic of Folk Horror & the Urban Wyrd. Over 21-22 March, authors from across the country will gather to celebrate everything they love about the Folk Horror genre; including appearances from Ramsey Campbell, Dan Coxon, Lucie McKnight Hardy, Andrew Michael Hurley and Lucy Rose.
Andrew Michael Hurley is a celebrated British gothic/folk horror author known for atmospheric prose, including The Lonely, Devil’s Day, Starve Acre, and Barrowbeck. Starve Acre was adapted as a film and released in 2023. The Lonely, was a Costa First Novel winner, establishing him as a significant voice in contemporary British Fiction, with his latest novel Saltwash released in October 2025.
