If you could spend eternity with just one precious memory, what would it be?

A play written by Jack Thorne and adapted from the film by Hirokazu Kore-eda, concept by Bunny Christie, Jeremy Herrin and Jack Thorne by arrangement with Nick Hern Books. The production is performed by Out of Character Theatre Company, an amateur company whose actors access or have previously accessed mental health support. A group of strangers grapple with this impossible question as they find themselves in a bureaucratic waiting room between life and death. Encouraged by enigmatic officials, they must sift through their past lives to choose their forever.

After Life, a play by Jack Thorne adapted from Hirokazu Kore-eda’s award-winning film (concept by Bunny Christie, Jeremy Herrin and Jack Thorne), is a surreal and powerfully human look at the way we view our lives.

This production was performed by Out of Character Theatre Company at the Creative Centre, York St John in December 2023, and is now part of the Takeover festival.
