A unique opportunity to ‘name a seat’ in York Theatre Royal’s historic auditorium is now available as part of the theatre’s latest fundraising campaign.

Seat dedications last for a decade, with all donors receiving an engraved plaque on their chosen seat along with a commemorative certificate as a special keepsake. Whether you are marking a special occasion, honouring the memory of a loved one or celebrating your passion for the arts, this is a remarkable opportunity to leave your legacy whilst also supporting regional theatre.

The campaign has been relaunched following Sir Gary Oldman’s recent visit to York Theatre Royal. Gary Oldman, who was knighted during King Charles’ Birthday Honours last week (Fri 13 Jun) started his professional career at York Theatre Royal in 1979. He returned over 40 years later to leave a remarkable legacy by performing, designing and directing a production of Samuel Beckett’s Krapp’s Last Tape. The show which ran from 14 Apr to 17 May brought thousands of people to the theatre.

Communications and Development Director Vicky Biles said, “Naming a seat can be a really heartfelt and unique gift, a way to treasure the memory of a loved one or even to celebrate your passion for theatre in a place that is special to you. Donations like this are vital to secure the future of the theatre and we can’t continue to do the work we do without the generous support of people like you!”

All ‘name a seat’ donations received will contribute towards the theatre’s ongoing fundraising initiatives. This supports the theatre’s continuous work as producers and presenters of world class productions and contributes to the upkeep of the historic Grade 2* listed building. Donations also support the theatre’s wider work in the community, through the many creative engagement projects with young people and vital community outreach programmes.

Seat dedications last for 10 years for a donation of £400. Contact York Theatre Royal’s Development Team on fundraising@yorktheatreroyal.co.uk for more details on how to name a seat or visit the York Theatre Royal website here.
