Experience epic drama at YTR – with The RSC’s Hamlet and Frantic Assembly’s Lost Atoms now onsale

An epic line-up of drama is coming to York in 2025/26 as part of the York Theatre Royal programme, including a new production of Hamlet from the Royal Shakespeare Company and a brand-new play, Lost Atoms, from Frantic Assembly for their 30th Anniversary year.

Following sellout tours of Othello and Metamorphosis Frantic Assembly will be bringing their brand-new play written by Anna Jordan (Succession, Killing Eve, The Unreturning, Yen) to York Theatre Royal this October.

Lost Atoms tells the story of a relationship: an extraordinary, transformative love. Or is that only in hindsight? Perhaps it was just typical? Or toxic? Or doomed from the start? One thing’s for sure: It changed their lives. Two people plunge deep into their shared pasts and propel themselves into multiple imagined futures.

At times hilarious, at times devastating, Lost Atoms explores how memory impacts the way we look at love, and asks what makes a truly “successful” relationship? Performances will run from Tue 7th October to Sat 11th October in York Theatre Royal’s Main House.

For Shakespeare fans, the RSC will also be back in York in April 2026 with a new production of Hamlet. Fresh from its run in Stratford-upon-Avon, this new staging of Shakespeare’s famous revenge drama will visit the city as part of a major national tour.

Hamlet is the Prince of Denmark. After the death of Hamlet’s father, his uncle, Claudius, marries his mother and takes the throne for himself. In one of the most famous scenes in Shakespeare, Hamlet’s father appears to the young prince as a ghost, telling his son that he was murdered by Claudius. Seeking vengeance, he wants Hamlet to kill Claudius, setting off a tragic chain of events.

The stellar creative team is led by multi-award-winning director Rupert Goold whose recent work includes Dear England (National Theatre) and King Charles III (Almeida Theatre/West End/Broadway). Joining Rupert on the creative team are: Sophie Drake (Revival Director), Es Devlin (Set Designer), Evie Gurney (Costume Designer), Jack Knowles (Lighting Designer), Adam Cork (Composer and Sound Designer), Hannes Langolf (Movement Director), Akhila Krishnan (Video Designer), Kev McCurdy (Fight Director); and Charlotte Sutton CDG (Casting Director).

Performances will run from Tue 14 April 2026 to Sat 18 April 2026.

Lost Atoms and Hamlet are onsale now. School group discounts are available on both shows.
