Not based in North Yorkshire? You can get in touch with your tour information by contacting programming@yorktheatreroyal.co.uk or artistdevelopment@yorktheatreroyal.co.uk if you have a project to discuss.
We are a member of Venues North – you might also be interested in their Routes In guide, which outlines ways to get your work programmed in the north of England.
Actors
Most of our productions are cast via Spotlight. If you are an actor based in North Yorkshire, you will receive advance information on casting callouts for some of our shows through our Creative Hub newsletter, and if you fit the casting breakdown we will endeavour to see you for the role. We also hold open auditions at intervals for actors based in the region.
Plays & Playwrights
We’re sorry to say that we don’t have a Literary Department at York Theatre Royal. Therefore, we are unable to process unsolicited scripts.
However, we have a track record of producing new work from brilliant writers (including Maureen Lennon, Tonderai Munyevu, and Mike Kenny) and are keen to support playwrights in developing their work.
If you are a playwright based in North Yorkshire and would like to introduce yourself to us, here are a couple of starting points:
Artist Development
We want to support emerging artists as well as established artists who want to develop something new. We regularly run Artist Surgeries where you can speak to a member of the artistic team and receive help and advice on a new project.
We also run artist development workshops each year covering a range of disciplines and some longer courses, and we host scratch nights for work in progress. This year, we partnered with Next Door But One in their Opening Doors programme, presenting a range of skills workshops.
Each year, we recruit one small, emerging local company each year to be an Associate Company with us. The company receive rehearsal space, support from our staff team and a financial contribution to making or developing a new piece of work.
