Explore the Yorkshire Wolds chalk streams through movement
There are whispers of ancient secrets spilling forth in the shimmering streams that surround us… its time to step into their waters! Join York dance legend Christie Barnes and Futureproof team member Maddy Winter in a series of three movement and dance workshops that gently guide you through the formation, ecology and folklore of the Yorkshire Wolds chalk streams.
As we move from session to session you will be reborn into countless lifeforms, exploring the intricate ecosystems that dance beneath the shimmering surface of these sacred waters. With every step, with every motion, you will forge an indelible connection—between the freedom of dance and the awe-inspiring wonder of the natural sciences. This is not just participation; this is an awakening—a passionate pilgrimage of wild service for our water-ways.
These free sessions will culminate in an optional celebratory performance, developed in the sessions, at the Opposites Attract scratch night on 8th August!
Not sure what a chalk stream is? Thatʼs even more reason to come along.
This is part of a series of creative events Futureproof are organising in 2026 to engage with 18-35 year olds in York who want to dip their toes into theatre for the first time!
The Futureproof Team are a group of individuals from various creative backgrounds and walks of life who have been brought together by The York Theatre Royal to, among many things, think about how people connect to theatre, don’t connect to theatre and how that impacts the future of theatre.
