Are you curious about how music is made for film and theatre? Have you got a passion for all things Ancient Greece? Would you like to learn a bit more about how music is created or have you started playing an instrument? What if you’re just curious about what York Theatre Royal, Ancient Greece, Music and the city of York all have in common?
Come along to Sound and Story where you will have the opportunity to become a composer, without having to use musical language! Meet with Samuel and Damien, who will guide you through the process of taking an idea and creating a piece of music from it. Get the chance to see how their instruments work and try them yourself.
You do not need to have a background in music or have any musical experience.
This session is open to all aged 18-35.
This event is inspired by Ancient Greek history. If you have anything related to this period (a poem, book, pictures, etc…) that you’d like to use as inspiration, please feel free to bring it along!
This is part of a series of creative events Futureproof are organising in 2026 to engage with 18-35 year olds in York who want to dip their toes into theatre for the first time!
The Futureproof Team are a group of individuals from various creative backgrounds and walks of life who have been brought together by The York Theatre Royal to, among many things, think about how people connect to theatre, don’t connect to theatre and how that impacts the future of theatre.
