Our mission is to provide opportunities for our communities to live creative lives, regardless of circumstance. From weekly workshops to epic community productions, there’s lots of ways you can get creative at York Theatre Royal.
Adult Theatre Workshop
Acting classes for all levels
All are welcome to our Adult Theatre Workshop. Led by local professional actor Niall Costigan, each term takes a different approach for those keen to flex their acting muscles, from beginner’s to those with more experience. Join in for a fun, safe and creative environment that focuses on key acting skills.

WINGS is a free weekly group for women seeking a nurturing space to explore creativity, create stories and find community. It offers a safe, supportive environment to grow through drama exercises, art, and other creative activities, and is open to all women who want a positive, encouraging space to be creative and connect.

Shakespeare Nation
Exploring Shakespeare's stories
A community participation programme run in partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company, it aims to engage with adults who have little or no experience of Shakespeare, exploring the Bard’s stories and responding to them in a way that is meaningful to us.
The Hut
We host monthly drama sessions at The Hut York, a member-led charity dedicated to enhancing the lives of adults navigating mental health challenges and/or learning disabilities through creativity and purpose. During these sessions, we explore different drama techniques and connect members with performances and projects at York Theatre Royal.
