Composed of individuals from the Global Majority community, as well as refugees and asylum seekers living in York and its surrounding areas, Theatre of Connections is a vibrant collective that celebrates the richness of our multicultural community by embracing diverse perspectives and fostering intercultural connections.
We harness the transformative power of theatre to promote empowerment, empathy, and social change. Through creative expression, we amplify the voices of these communities, shedding light on their lived experiences and raising awareness of the challenges they face.
We tell stories to inspire reflection, foster empathy, and deepen understanding, paving the way for meaningful social change.
Inspired by the provocation of Sweet Legacies and the Mayan legend of the Cacao Goddess, Theatre of Connections has developed a performance piece, IxCacao, which take audiences on a journey to an ancient time when the Earth thrived under the care of matriarchs and the rhythm of nature. But as empires rose and greed took root, the Earth and its people began to suffer and wither. It became time to remember, to awaken the roots of the land and reconnect with ancestral wisdom.
IxCacao is a powerful reclamation of community, pleasure, and ancestral knowledge in the face of domination. Through movement, song, and storytelling, it reminds us that joy is a revolutionary act, and that true abundance is meant for all.
