An evening of contemporary folk
Pen and Stu are a modern folk duo. They play original contemporary folk – with BIG whistles and tenor guitars and an assortment of other instruments. Their songs, written by Pen and arranged by Stu, tell stories about famous characters from history and folklore, heroes, villains and pirate queens. Their show includes lots of wonderful traditional and original tunes and songs, including some unreleased tracks and some of their favourite folk covers. In this show they will also be performing their Durham Fringe Festival 2026 show, ‘Heroes and Villains – A Musical Journey’.
Pen and Stu were the Folkscape Live artist of the month for March 2024, they released their album ‘Ravenswood’ the same year. Folk publication, FATEA Magazine, said of ‘Ravenswood’:
“..there’s no doubt folk audiences will be setting sail to the addictive rhythm no sooner than the opening notes begin. These songs, performed at festivals, will have audiences tapping toes, clapping hands and stomping their feet, some may also feel compelled to get up and dance.”
This show will be onsale for YTR members at 1pm on 06 Jul. General onsale will open at 1pm on 11 Jul. Find out more about becoming a YTR member here.
This show is part of The Old Paint Shop season, which transforms our Studio into a cabaret club.
