“There’s this idea that if you’re not straight, you have to tell all your family and friends immediately, like you owe it to them. But you don’t. You don’t have to do anything until you’re ready”
Heartstopper, Alice Oseman
Join us for a night of new short stories that offer a brilliant breath of the coming out experience. Roots have been working with 8 LGBTQ+ artists from North Yorkshire to create a variety of new mini-plays about coming out. These artists have been mentored by writer Frazer Flintham (Sky/StudioCanal) and director Séan Linnen (Royal Shakespeare Company), with producing provided by the teams at Roots and Four Wheel Drive.
Performed by these writers trying out their new work for the first time, you can expect to experience a wide range of voices and styles, guaranteed to keep you entertained!
75 Minutes (no interval)
Produced by Yorkshire’s queer touring theatre company, Roots (Happy Meal – Fringe First), with all proceeds going towards their support of new local artists.
Coming Out Scratch Night is supported by the Julia Rausing Trust. Follow the Trust’s work on X: @JuliaRTrust and LinkedIn: Julia Rausing Trust.
