CBBC and CBeebies star Richard David-Caine cast in York Theatre Royal’s 2026 panto

York Theatre Royal have today announced that Richard David-Caine (Horrible Histories, Swashbuckle, Horrible Science) will star in this year’s magical family panto Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Richard will play the villainous baddie Herman the Henchman in this year’s pantomime, alongside York panto favourites Tommy Carmichael and Robin Simpson – who both return after delighting audiences in last year’s Sleeping Beauty. No stranger to pantomime, Richard has previously won two National Pantomime Awards for his performances.

Richard is part of the core cast in CBBC’s Horrible Histories and Horrible Science and, with them, featured in Shakespeare Live! on BBC 2, and Horrible Histories: The Movie. He starred in CBBC mockumentary series, Class Dismissed, for which he was twice nominated for a Royal Television Society award for Best Comedy Performance. Richard also created, wrote and fronted his own sketch show, Big Fat Like, also for CBBC. Richard is one half of the comedy duo Cook and Line in CBeebies’ BAFTA-winning, smash-hit show, Swashbuckle.

Richard’s other Film/TV credits include Steal (Amazon), Masters of the Universe (MGM/Mattel), Cruella (Disney), Father Brown (BBC), Better Things (FX), Avenue 5 (HBO), Midsomer Murders (ITV), Murder, They Hope (UKTV Gold); Finding Alice (ITV), Dead Air (BBC), Skins: Redux (E4), Doctors (BBC), Big Field (BBC) and People Just Do Nothing (BBC).

His stage credits include The Importance of Being Earnest (Mercury Theatre), The Witches (National Theatre), Soho Cinders (original West End cast recording, Queens), Horrible Histories: The Concert (National Tour), Taming of the Shrew (Derby Theatre), The Tempest (Orange Tree), Potted Panto (Vaudeville) and Jihad! The Musical (Jermyn Street), as well as his award-winning, one-man show, Tall, Dark and Anxious (Soho).

The show is written by Paul Hendy, directed by Juliet Forster and co-produced with award-winning Evolution Productions – the team behind previous York pantomime hits Jack and the Beanstalk, Aladdin and last year’s Sleeping Beauty.

Juliet Forster, Creative Director at York Theatre Royal, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Richard to our cast for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. He is absolutely hilarious and I know our audiences are going to love him as our baddie Herman the Henchman. Tickets are selling fast so be sure to book early so you don’t miss out!”

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs  is at York Theatre Royal from 4 December 2026 to 3 January 2027. With lavish costumes, stunning sets, hilarious jokes and dazzling special effects, this will be an unmissable treat for the whole family.
