Chekhov’s celebrated masterpiece

Anton Chekhov heralded the birth of modern theatre with The Seagull, a story about unrequited love, the generation gap, and how life can turn on a kopek. The poignant and sometimes absurd playfulness of this raw tragicomedy is echoed in Michael Frayn’s lively translation.

Two years after the success of Uncle Vanya, York Settlement Community Players (YSCP), celebrating their centenary in the city, return to our intimate Studio with Chekhov’s most famous story.

Directed by Helen Wilson (Uncle Vanya, The Cherry Orchard, Three Sisters), this production of The Seagull will complete YSCP and Helen’s ten year project to stage all four of Chekhov’s major plays in York.
