Adventure through story together

Help nourish your pre-schooler’s imagination and creativity through a craft activity and multi-sensory story time, planned around a fabulous picture book run by Story Craft Theatre.

Every Friday in the Foyer from 17 Jan to 27 Mar (excluding 21 Feb) and 24 Apr to 10 Jul (excluding 8 and 29 May).

£5 per session or book the full term via our Box Office for a 10% discount!

Friday 17 January: The Very Hungry Caterpillar

We’re starting back this term with a classic by Eric Carle. This book tells the life cycle of a caterpillar from coming out of its egg to becoming a beautiful butterfly. . .with an array of tasty treats along the way!

We’ll also begin the session by making Caterpillar puppets.

Friday 24 January: The Wonky Donkey

The Wonky Donkey by Craig Smith is one very VERY funny tale. . . can we get a HEE HAW if you agree?! Let’s find out what makes this Wonky Donkey so extra special. We’ll be busting out some country music tunes to help us along our way!

Friday 31 January: How to Catch a Star

It’s not as easy as climbing a tree and reaching up…and if your rocket is out of petrol then it might get tough. Don’t worry too much though as this lovely story by Oliver Jeffers tells how one little boy gets his wish.

Friday 7 February: A Bit Lost

Uh-oh! Little owl has fallen out of the nest and can’t find its mummy. Luckily some very helpful woodland creatures are at hand to help get the two reunited. This story has us learning about kindness of others . . .and maybe not falling asleep on the edge of a tree!

Friday 14 February: Each Peach Pear Plum

Originally published in . . . wait for it . . . .1978! Well that says a lot about good stories that can stand the test of time and how old we are . . . moving on! This classic book by Allan and Janet Ahlberg is a real delight, bringing together a whole mix of characters from traditional stories. Plus, nothing beats a bit of fruit pie!

Friday 28 February: Mr Gumpy’s Outing

How lovely to take a trip down the river on a beautiful day. So much so that more and more riders come aboard until…well you can probably guess what happens. Don’t worry arm bands will not be needed for this weeks Crafty Tales, though we can’t guarantee you won’t get a little wet!

Friday 6 March: Sophie Johnson – Unicorn Expert

Living with unicorns can be tricky. They are quite messy! Having just one unicorn can leave you with our hands full…imagine having 17! This week promises to be a rainbow filled adventure with a little bit of sparkle thrown in for good measure.

Friday 13 March: Where the Wild Things Are

Nothing says monster party like a Wild Rumpus starting! Another brilliant classic brought to life this week. Join Max on his imaginative adventure. Story by Maurice Sendak.

Friday 20 March: The Tiger Who came to tea

Nothing like turning up to a house, eating and drinking everything in sight and then heading off without cleaning up. Tigers and teenagers apparently can get away with it.

Judith Kerr’s beautifully told story of . . well, let’s face it a pretty cheeky Tiger, is a firm favourite of ours and we’re very excited to be bringing it to Crafty Tales.

Friday 27 March: Shark in the Park

Luckily, we’ll be making telescopes in this week’s session. That way we can have a look through them and see if there really is a Shark in the Park. There can’t be, can there? No . . . um . . . let’s be brave and find out!
