The Black Box Showcase is an opportunity to see exciting artists and companies share their new work. Each of them will present an extract of their new project, to give you an insight into the creative process of making contemporary performance. All artists and companies are making this work at, or with, York Theatre Royal and would welcome informal feedback during the evening.

Lucy Haighton and Adele Wragg present Our Diana
Our Diana a tribute – not to Diana, Princess of Wales – but to how one woman’s rise to fame, and her death, gripped a nation and became a national obsession. Why do we love, hate, defend, insult, or grieve so passionately for famous figures whom we have never met? Whatever your opinion, everyone has something to say about Diana.

Jack Reeve presents Wrestling with Wheelchairs
Comedy galore as realism and characters collide in this stand-up and sketch comedy show about the ups and downs of being disabled and working in theatre.A comedy show written by and starring Jack Reeve & Gavin Tokhai where the real star is a chair.

Garry A Morris presents The Last Shift [working title]
Duncan decided to go down pit. It wasn’t Proud Valley, but it was proud work. Life had a bit of a hum to it. A black miner in Yorkshire, just like every miner going on the last shift.Last shift is based on the true story of a Yorkshire Mining Disaster.

Katie Greenbrown and Peter Roman present Rust (Created for Northern Electric)
Northern Electric’s multi-sensory storytelling takes us back to the early decades of the 20th century when the Ouse teemed with working barges and the fortunes of every town between here and Hull rose and dipped with the tide.In a time when life was hard, you knew your place or else, and jazz was the very devil itself – is a stout heart and a head full of minor chords enough to get you what you want before the tide turns?
