Booking Terms and Conditions

How to Pay: We accept cash, cheque, debit or credit cards. Tickets booked over the phone or online will be posted to you for £1.50 delivery charge or can be sent to you to print at home free of charge.  All other bookings will held at the Box Office for collection. Delivery charges may vary for events which York Theatre Royal are acting as ticket agents.

For shows at other venues, tickets should be collected from that venue after 6pm on the performance day (from 1pm for matinees).

York Theatre Royal Gift Vouchers: Please check the expiry date carefully as expired tokens will not be accepted. (We are unable to accept undated tokens of more than 5 years old).

Reserving Tickets: You can reserve tickets for 4 days. If you have unpaid tickets on reserve please collect them at least 30 mins before the performance as reserved tickets may be released for re-sale after that point.

Exchanging Tickets: We must have the tickets at Box Office to perform a re-sale or exchange. We are unable to refund tickets but will aim to do our best to re-sell them. Please note that our own unsold tickets will take priority. Provided we have the tickets at least 24 hours before the performance we will exchange them for other tickets of equivalent value for an admin fee of £1 per transaction(free to members). Tickets can only be exchanged to a different performance of the same show. No ticket refunds will be given on the announcement of a subsequent special offer.

Concessions: apply to Over 60s, Under 18s, those in receipt of means tested benefits and students. Please check print or website for details or ask at the Box Office. All offers and discounts are subject to availability. York Theatre Royal reserves the right to add or remove discounts at any time, only one discount type applies per ticket, proof of status must be shown.  No ticket refunds will be given on the announcement of a subsequent special offer.

Registered Disabled Patrons may purchase a half-price ticket for themselves and an essential carer.  Please contact the Box Office for details.

Schools may claim 1 free teacher ticket with every 10 pupils over 8, 1 in 5 free with pupils 8 years and under. Additional teacher tickets can be purchased at £10 when accompanying a school party. Groups 10+ are entitled to a discount of £2 off per ticket. 

Access: We are committed to making our performances as accessible as possible.  Wheelchair spaces are available for all of our productions , please state at the time of booking if a wheelchair position is required. There are accessible toilets and baby changing facilities. We have a wireless system for audio described performances and the hard of hearing (please collect relevant equipment from the Box Office) and also schedule signed and captioned performances. Companion tickets are available and access dogs are admitted. Touch Tours can be booked 24hrs in advance of an Audio Described performance.

Latecomers: Latecomers may be asked to wait until a suitable break in the performance before taking their seats. On some occasions it may be impossible to admit latecomers until the interval. York Theatre Royal has a customer services policy.

Tickets cannot be refunded unless the event is cancelled. Tickets can be exchanged to another performance of the same show subject to availability, and on payment of a small transaction charge. Latecomers may not be admitted until a suitable break in the performance. The use of mobile phones, cameras, video and any other form of recording equipment is strictly prohibited. The management reserve the right to refuse admission.

Information regarding the show is correct at the time of publication and York Theatre Royal cannot be held responsible for late changes to programming and casting.

York Theatre Royal – Controller of Personal Data

For the purposes of the Data Protection Act 1998, we, York Theatre Royal, are a data controller. In order to process your booking, membership, marketing or other request we need to collect certain personal details from you. As part of the delivery of services and information through this website it may be necessary to process personal information. This information can be held in manual paper files or on computer and it is used to deliver services to you. Only the minimum appropriate personal data is requested and held, and it is only kept for so long as the purpose requires.

Information collected by York Theatre Royal will be stored and processed in databases owned solely by York Theatre Royal.

The Data Protection Act 1998 requires any organisation that processes personal information to notify the Information Commissioner of what they are doing.

York Theatre Royal has notified relevant processing with the Office of the Information Commissioner. The register can be viewed on the Information Commissioner's website. The register only shows what an organisation or individual is registered to do. It does not reveal whether or not they hold personal information on a particular person.

Storage of personal data

All details you give us in connection with your booking will be kept securly to enable us to deal with you more efficiently in future. We will only use your name and contact details for marketing purposes (for example sending you a brochure or details of a promotion) if you opt-in at the time of booking or contact, and will never pass on your details to any outside organisations unless you specifically agree to this, or we are required to by law.

If you believe that any of your personal details which we are holding are incorrect or inaccurate please let us know.

You are entitled to ask us (by letter or email) what details of yours are being held or processed by us, for what purposes and to whom they may be or have been disclosed. Please note a fee of up to £10 may be charged for this service. Please allow up to one month for us to process all data regarding your privacy choices.
