Eating and Drinking

Welcoming groups, families and individuals, York Theatre Royal offers a flexible and multi-use café and working space. This includes a kid’s zone, which features a dressing up rail from our wardrobe department, books, toys and more, alongside a kids menu. At £4.95, this comprises a hot main course, drink and Little Bloc ice cream, which is free of refined sugar.

If your focus is more work inclined, there is free Wi-Fi, multiple public use plug sockets and plentiful table seating – great for hosting a meeting or having space to research a play.

Our Colonnade Café provides soft seating in an area flooded with natural light from floor to ceiling windows, which are perfect for relaxing and watching the world go by.

During the day our café, which opens at 10am, provides a range of teas and coffees, supplied by York Coffee Emporium. Alongside this, the café offers homemade quiche, frittata and sandwiches, served with our accompanying range of fresh salads.

Homemade meals from our team of talented chefs are available to order through the café (or bistro bar when open) – these take locally sourced ingredients to make tasty and balanced dishes suitable for any time of day. The kitchen menu is available until 7pm on show days, or 4pm on non-show days.

For something sweet, as an afternoon treat or to finish a meal, we have a range of fresh cakes and traybakes available across the café counter.

Our bars are open from an hour before the start of a performance – they supply a select range of beers, wines and spirits. Our wine list, is curated in conjunction with Yorkshire Vintners and offers a range of new and old world wines across a spectrum of pricing. Black Sheep Brewery in Masham, supply our range of draught and bottled drinks, including their own iconic Black Sheep Bitter. We also stock a range of bottles from our panto sponsors, York Brewery.

We strive to provide all guests with a relaxed and enjoyable experience and if there is anything we can do - from dietary requirements to access to information on the history of the theatre – please don’t hesitate to speak to a member of the team.
