Held in the De Grey Rooms, these workshops cover a wide range of dramatic disciplines and focus on expanding your dramatic experience, confidence and development. Whether you’re just beginning to explore acting or are looking to enhance your skills further with professional experience, participants are always welcome to learn in a comfortable, relaxed environment where the emphasis is on discovery and constructive learning.

Keep it Simple led by Michael Lambourne

We begin the new term with sound advice for any performer ‘Keep it Simple’. Acting is not a complicated craft so don’t over think what you do. Allow yourself to be free to create and you’ll become better and more confident in your ability in no time at all. In this session, we’ll look at unlocking your abilities.

Michael is an actor and has led the classes at York Theatre Royal for over 5 years. He has performed in several productions for the theatre, including Wind in the Willows and The Railway Childrenwww.michaellambourne.co.uk

The Character Actor's Toolbox led by Ed Thorpe

In this class Ed will lead you through all the elements he employs when creating characters. You’ll take an involved look at various exercises which employ tempo and movement and work towards presenting a character to take on into a scene.

Animation led by Kelvin Goodspeed

Here you’ll explore bringing objects to life. It’s an amazing skill, the ability to convince an audience that seemingly simple elements can become exciting through how we manipulate them. A real eye-opening session on how to enhance your all-round performance.

Kelvin is an actor, youth director and puppeteer. He has worked as a puppeteer for Norwich Puppet Theatre, Custard Factory Theatre Company and others, and has worked as a puppetry consultant for York Theatre Royal and Riding Lights Theatre Company.

Voices, Choices and Noises led by Michael Lambourne

30 October

Putting the Zip in Scripts led by Michael Lambourne

Working with prepared scripts we’ll really focus on making the page come alive for the stage. We’ll ask how we can make our words come alive for us, our fellow actors and most importantly the audience.
