Marco D’Agostin: Olympic Games Workshops and Sharing

Marco D’Agostin: Olympic Games Workshops and Sharing

York Theatre Royal is a partner in BeSpectACTive!, a European project involving some of the most innovative European organisations working on active spectatorship in contemporary performing arts. As part of this work, we are delighted to host Marco D’Agostin, an Italian dance artist, as he develops a new piece of work called The Olympic GamesAs part of the research that will lead to the creation of their new piece, Marco and collaborator Chiara Bersani are hosting three opportunities for a group of local people to contribute to its creation. These events are free, but places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. If you do not receive a confirmation from us that you have a seat the event will be sold out.

Workshop and discussion forum open to anyone interested in dance.

Fri 9 Dec 6.308.30pm
The Olympic Games will focus on a series of topics related to European/national identities, trying to produce reflections and ideas around the hypothesis that war is currently going on in our continent, but with invisible forms. The session will start by sharing personal and collective memories relating to the Olympic Games (ceremonies, celebrations, events, anecdotes, competitions, sportsmen etc.), then Chiara and Marco will share their own working methods in a practical way – participants don’t need to have had any previous experience of dance.

Workshop for young dancers (age 12
Sat 10 Dec, 3
As part of the research that will lead to the creation of their new piece, The Olympic Games, Italian artists Marco D’Agostin and Chiara Bersani will run a dance workshop for young dancers, exploring ideas of excitement, celebration and expectation, the workshop will focus on the methods used in big mass dances, such as synchronicity, rhythm, and surprise effects.
