Countdown to Christmas begins as Minster’s Carol Concert tickets go on sale.

Countdown to Christmas begins as Minster’s Carol Concert tickets go on sale.

Tickets for York Minster’s 2016 Christmas Carol Concerts – the most popular event in the cathedral’s calendar – will go on sale next week.

More than 45 per cent of the tickets for last year’s concerts were sold on the first day of sales with the most highly sought after seats at the front of the Nave completely selling out within the first two hours.

Tickets for this year’s concerts, which take place on Thursday 15 and Friday 16 December at 7pm, will go on sale on Monday 26 September.  The tickets will be available from the Box Office at York Theatre Royal, the Minster’s ticket partner for the event.

Commenting on the release of the tickets, Robert Sharpe, Director of Music at York said:

“The Christmas Carol Concerts are an important festive tradition with many people returning year after year.  With more than three months to go before the concerts we’re already fielding enquiries for this much-loved event.

“This year’s concerts will feature celebrity readers performing seasonal poetry and readings as well as classical and traditional Christmas music sung by the full York Minster Choir with the Yorkshire Volunteers Band leading the audience in Christmas carols.”

Tickets for both concerts will go on sale on Monday 26 September at 9.30am. Tickets are priced at £25, £18 and £12 and are available from York Theatre Royal Box Office by telephoning 01904 623568 or in person on Mondays from 10am-5pm (9.30am on Monday 26 September for the first day of concert sales), Tuesday-Saturday 10am-8pm or until 6pm on non-show days.  Online www.boxoffice.yorkminster.org.  Please note that a booking fee of £1.50 is payable for all transactions apart from cash payments at the Box Office in person.

The concerts are part of a busy programme of services, events and activities at York Minster during Advent and Christmas including the Advent Procession on 27 November, a performance of Handel’s Messiah by the York Minster Choir on 10 December, and festive craft workshops on Saturday 10 and 17 December.
