Youth Theatre Fundraising Fete Raises Over £1250

Youth Theatre Fundraising Fete Raises Over £1250

York Theatre Royal’s Youth Theatre held a fundraising fete on Saturday 7 February in aid of the theatre’s Capital re-development project, raising £1,278.54.  The event was held in the De Grey Rooms Ballroom and was organised and run by Youth Theatre members, their families and other volunteers.

Alongside the usual stalls, games and refreshments were quirky and exciting activities thought up by the Youth Theatre team including; the Human Fruit Machine, which involved children jumping out of boxes holding actual fruit; a Fun Photo Booth complete with professional photographer James Drury; Cake Roulette with a chance to bite into red hot chili cake; costume designing competitions and a dance-off; and an auction which included prizes from a weekend in the Yorkshire Dales to a violin.

Youth Theatre Associate Natalie Quatermass said:

A massive thank you to everyone who supported the Youth Theatre Fundraising Fete on 7th February.  All afternoon the ballroom was full of laughter, silliness and, most importantly, young people.  We raised a whopping amount for the Capital project, and have had plenty of positive feedback from families who loved the opportunity to get together, have fun and support the appeal.  I love Youth Theatre!

Rebekah Burland, a member of the Youth Theatre’s 14-16 year-olds group helped with the event:

The Fundraising Fete was fun and vibrant and all Youth Theatre members and their families were enjoying celebrating Youth Theatre with creativity and playfulness. I was helping with an 8-10 year-olds group that I volunteer with who enjoyed performing wonderful adverts for objects in the auction.  And I really loved the open mic hour!

In October 2014 York Theatre Royal launched a public appeal, calling on the people of York to help raise the last £500,000 of the much needed £4.1million investment into the interior of the important and historic building.

In the last 4 months over £200,000 has been raised, thanks to the generous donations of individuals, audiences, local businesses, schools and community groups.  The money raised by the Youth Theatre Fundraising Fete will help towards the final £284,000 needed to achieve the £500,000 target.
