TakeOver is an annual festival run entirely by young people, who are supported and mentored by industry professionals. TakeOver programme, produce and deliver a large scale theatre and arts festival at York Theatre Royal and across the city. We're very excited to be collaborating with York Mediale (www.yorkmediale.com) this year to work together on a Festival of Theatre and Media Arts. We plan to create performances, exhibitions and run workshops focusing on local stories and important historical buildings. Through our collaboration with York Mediale we will use Media Arts to make and present exciting, contemporary work.
This year's artistic director, Jessy Roberts said, "We believe that through active participation in the project, young people will remember these stories and pass on their legacy by creating new, dynamic pieces of art and theatre that will make an impact on the community. We hope that it will improve the community's relationship with historical sights and encourage people to view them as places that they can make the most of, as well as discover more about Media Arts and how they can be used to combine the past and present and create exciting pieces."
TakeOver Festival is governed by a Board of trustees aged between 12-26 with a diverse range of skills and experiences. To find out more about volunteering for this year's TakeOver Festival, please email email@example.com
We are fundraising for TakeOver 2018 through Just Giving. We need your help to make this amazing festival happen. Please donate whatever you can, however big or small. Help us TAKEOVER and SPEAK OUT.
Our next event is TakeOver Talks, a live poetry slam event open to new and experienced poets with the winner of the evening being awarded a performing slot at the TakeOver Festival 2018. Details can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/2148441438722391/

“Thank you so much for TakeOver, it has been an absolute inspiration to me. It has been such a fantastic opportunity to be part of. I have learned an unbelievable amount over the past year and have enjoyed every minute. I know TakeOver will go on to be bigger and more fabulous than ever before! I am so delighted to be going on to a paid theatre role, thank you for being so supportive.”
“I have been genuinely inspired by working on TakeOver. It has completely changed my outlook on what I want to do with my future as I have realised that I need to do something that contributes something positive. I really cannot tell you how much I have learned from TakeOver and how grateful I am.”
