Alan Bennett is one of our greatest playwrights, with a cavalcade of stage and screen blockbusters including The History Boys, The Madness Of King George and Talking Heads.
In The Habit Of Art, Bennett gives us a play about a meeting between the poet WH Auden and the composer Benjamin Britten – two of the greatest British gay artists of the twentieth century.
Exploring sex, death, creativity and art, this multilayered masterpiece examines friendship, rivalry and the desires of men.
After a sold-out National Theatre run, this production directed by Philip Franks marks the first ever revival of the play and stars the Olivier Award winning Matthew Kelly (Of Mice and Men; Pride and Prejudice), David Yelland (Chariots of Fire; The Crown) and Veronica Roberts (Peak Practice; Tenko).
"I thought it unlikely that he would be able to equal the succes of The History Boys but The Habit Of Art is another absolute cracker, often wonderfully and sometimes filthily funny, but also deeply moving." ★★★★★ Daily Telegraph
