This winter, York Museum Gardens will be transformed into an enchanted winter wonderland as it opens Christmas at York Museum Gardens on Thursday 16 November, creating an exciting, new attraction for York.

Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, the team behind Yorkshire's Winter Wonderland and THOR'S tipi bar have worked in partnership with Raymond Gubbay Ltd, world-leading producers of promoting and producing popular classical music, opera, ballet and events in the United Kingdom to bring this magical new experience to the city.

For the first time ever, York Museum Gardens will welcome visitors to a magical Christmas after-dark illuminated experience as the Gardens are transformed into a landscape of twinkling lights and festive cheer.

Greeted by the sights and sounds of Christmas, visitors will walk beneath unique tree canopies drenched in stunning seasonal colour. The festive journey begins in the 'edible garden' with the '12 Frames of Christmas', followed by a winding walk through a forest of singing trees glittering with lights, which then leads on to a spectacular projection onto one of York's best kept secrets, St Mary's Abbey ruins.

The trail will feature a unique and majestic installation specially-commissioned by a local Yorkshire artist, and within the gardens, visitors will also encounter magical music as they reach the 14th century Hospitium. After the excitement of following the path down to find Father Christmas in his secret bothy, children will also be captivated by the display of the ever-changing coloured mirror balls.

The finale of fire on the Library Lawn brings the enchanted walk to a truly magical end, with a chance to round-off the experience with traditional Christmas treats such as mulled wine and hot chocolate or spiced cider together with hot food and toasted marshmallows.

Christmas at York Museum Gardens is a brand-new evening attraction for York, offering a wonderful festive experience for all the family and guaranteed to create some special Christmas memories.
