Workshops and Tours

Developing creative abilities.

York Theatre Royal offers workshops and opportunities throughout the year. The central focus of our workshops is story and narrative; how a story or production is made and told, is as important as what it is about. We aim to develop the child’s critical and creative abilities as well as stimulate an interest and understanding of how drama and theatre can enhance and challenge their learning.

Work Experience

Engaging and developing the skills of young people.

We are always looking for ways to meaningfully engage with and develop the skills of young people and emerging artists through work placements. Our award winning TakeOver Festival is our most exciting and innovative work experience/placement opportunity for young people aged 12-26.

All opportunities are advertised on the Working With Us page of our website.

Due to the high number of requests we receive for work experience placements we are unable to respond to speculative requests. Opportunities for Year 10 Work Experience placements have now been filled for 2019.

Artsmark

Artsmark is the Arts Council England’s flagship programme to enable schools to evaluate, strengthen and celebrate their arts and cultural provisions. Artsmark contributes to the cultural aspect of Ofsted’s requirement that a school promotes students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Artsmark gives every child and young person the opportunity to create, perform and to gain knowledge and understanding of the arts through participation and visiting arts organisations.

York Theatre Royal offers support and engagement to York schools and the surrounding areas in the pursuit of Artsmark. We offer a wide range of opportunities for schools to enable them to engage and promote young people in the arts through backstage tours, theatre workshops and partnership programmes.

We are offering participating Artsmark schools discounted workshops that take place here at the theatre for half and full day sessions. Half day are £150 and full day £225. If you would like to book a workshop please email: schools@yorktheatreroyal.co.uk
