York Theatre Royal Young Actors Company (YAC) was created for 18-25 year
olds with the objective of providing performance opportunities for young
adults, acting as a bridge for some into the professional industry (current
and past members are about to go to Italia Conti, The Oxford School of Drama
and Mountview this year). The artistic vision of the company is aligned to
reflect the artistic output
of the building but with a specific focus on new, contemporary and site-specific
work. The company is fully supported by the theatre’s in-house resources and is run by artistic director Julian Ollive, the theatre’s Education and Young Actor’s
Associate.
The YAC produced its first works for the York Youth Mysteries in June 2008,
followed by a new devised piece called An Exact Science? which explored the
ethics of genetics. 'YAC produced Equus in the main house for the TakeOver
09 festival and most recently produced Terrorism by The Presnyakov Brothers.
YAC works on a project by project basis through auditions so we are always
looking for new company
members when a new project arrives.
York Theatre Royal's Young Actors Company and company in-residence Belt
Up Theatre are co-producing a new site-specific show called Elsewhere for
the
TakeOver 10 festival. We are looking for young actors between the
ages of 18 - 25 years old to become a part of this exciting production somewhere
in York.
Auditions are being held on Friday July 2nd at 6.30 - 8.30pm and Sunday
4th at 6 - 8pm. Auditions will be through an open workshop as we are
looking for an ensemble of actors so you don't need to prepare anything.
The production is planned to run throughout the TakeOver week commencing October
25 - 31st. Rehearsals will be on Wednesday, Thursday evenings and Sunday
afternoons from September 8th. There is a fee of £50 for participation
in the production, payable when rehearsals begin. If you would like to audition
please email education@yorktheatreroyal.co.uk by Thursday July 1st.
