Chapman and Howard's annual Christmas party already has a less than salubrious reputation - last year's celebration proved so successful that wives and girlfriends and "anything complicated" have been resolutely banned this time round. Unfortunately, given Andy's recent marital difficulties and early onset mid-life crisis (he is two years from 40), no-one has considered the impact of new arrival Jo - and the effect of alcohol and relaxed inhibitions of those things that should perhaps be left unsaid.
First performed in September 1992 at the Nottingham Playhouse, the characters and scenario of John Godber's Office Party will be just as familiar to 2012 audiences - maybe more so! As York heads into the festive season, YSCP provide a glimpse of potential Christmas Futures with this play of social and sexual politics....... and barely submerged tensions..... Will Gavin manage to reduce the ludicrous waste paper bill? Will the office photocopier survive 'Bob Marden's Ring Cycle'? And will the entire fabric of western civilisation crumble if Andy gives in to temptation with Jo......?
