We are the local branch of Script Yorkshire, an organisation which exists to promote new writing for stage, screen, TV and radio in Yorkshire. SY arranges regular workshops with experienced writers and similar activities. We work with York Settlement Community Players to put our work on its feet. We mounted a production of six linked short plays entitled ‘Round The Walls’ at City Screen Basement Bar last Spring as part of the York Literature festival and we run regular ‘Script Factor’ events, currently at City Screen but moving shortly to YTR studio.

At the Script Factor, audiences hear short script extracts, presented by York Settlement Community Players and vote for their favourite at the end of the evening! The script is briefly introduced by the writer and there is opportunity for questions and discussion as well as a drink and a chat at the interval – we aim for an informal and friendly atmosphere.

Script Yorkshire’s York Branch ran the All Winners' Final of the Script Factor Event. held at York Theatre Royal Studio and compered by York Theatre Royal Artistic Director Damian Cruden, the winner, as voted for by the audience, was Sara Murphy's "Table Number Nine". Yorkscript

A fully rehearsed reading by York Settlement actors of brand new scripts from Script Yorkshire playwrights. Yorkscript is a way of getting exciting new writing up on its feet - and we intend it to become a regular feature. The venue for Yorkscript is The Basement Bar at City Screen, York. It is fully accessible and has a licensed bar. Come along and join us on Thursday 9th July for a night of theatre - meet the writers & the actors!
