From our legendary pantomime to ground breaking new plays, from our drama projects with young people to our fantastic community productions, York Theatre Royal is the beating heart of the city’s cultural life.
There has been a theatre on this site since 1744, making us the oldest theatre in the UK outside of London.
In March 2015, the Theatre closed its doors to the public to undergo a major £4.1 million redevelopment and will be reopening in the spring of 2016. This project will result in the complete transformation of our Front of House areas and make vital improvements to the audience experience in the main house.
