Capital Redevelopment & NPO Funding

York Theatre Royal is delighted to receive the news that the organisation has been awarded £2,850,000 towards its £4.1 million Redevelopment Project. In other good news, the Theatre also received confirmation of its continued status as a National Portfolio Organisation (NPO), meaning that it will receive an annual grant from Arts Council England to support its work over the next three years.

Voice work is such an essential part of an actors life and this can be traced back to the ancient Greek times in which those with powerful and distinctive voices became public speakers and teachers of rhetoric. They used their voice as a form of persuasion, in an attempt to propel an audience into action. Speech is an extremely powerful tool for an actor and a clear and effective speaking voice is just as important as dealing with the emotions and actions of a character.

An aircraft landed on top of the Theatre Royal in the centre of York early this morning. The city centre was deserted as the Hawker Hurricane made its unique "flight" at the start of Armed Forces Day.

This session kicked off with the actors up on their feet. The plays were starting to take shape and the actors were beginning to explore the depths of their character and situation. I spent time with different groups, helping them to explore ways in which they may use the space more effectively and to project meaning into the piece whilst also adopting an interesting visual image to capture the audience.
