York Theatre Royal in partnership with Northern Broadsides
Written by Blake Morrison Directed by Barrie Rutter Designed by Leslie Travers
A servant with two gaffers.
A woman disguised as her brother.
A pig-headed farmer, a pompous vicar, a lovesick lad, and a lass reluctantly engaged to a man who's meant to be dead…
Treat yourself to an evening of unadulterated fun with Blake Morrison’s inspired adaptation of Carlo Goldoni’s classic Italian comedy.
Giving the original a distinctly northern twist, this production is set in a small, Victorian Yorkshire town, swapping Venetian waterways for the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.
The Man with Two Gaffers is an uproarious tale of mistaken identity, deception, love and longing, in which a broke and hungry Yorkshireman suddenly lands himself two jobs. But can he really serve two bosses at once and not be rumbled? And imagine the confusion when he discovers they’re actually in love with each other!
After the success of School for Scandal Northern Broadsides’ charismatic cast returns to York Theatre Royal in a celebration of Goldoni’s comic masterpiece.
