************************* On the 23 May, 2010 York Theatre Royal will be taking to the streets of Edinburgh, not to showcase a new piece of street art but to run the Marathon and Hairy Haggis Relay. Nine members of staff will be donning running shoes to raise money for their Access For All Fund; set up to install a wheel chair lift at the De Grey Rooms, York which will become the theatres new rehearsal rooms, workshop space and youth theatre venue in 2011. Artistic Director, Damian Cruden will be running the full 26 miles, while Abbigail, Jenna, Julian, Katy, Liz, Rebecca, Sam and Tom will form two teams to run the marathon in relay. “As a theatre we are committed to making theatre accessible for all, this isn’t just through our diverse programming, but also has to extend to physically making all of our spaces accessible. By installing a wheel chair lift in the De Greys Rooms everyone will be able to take part in our workshops and classes” commented Rebecca Storey, Press and Media Manager for York Theatre Royal. If you would like to sponsor the York Theatre Royal Team and help raise funds for disabled access you can send a cheque payable to York Citizens Theatre Trust Limited to Communications Team, York Theatre Royal, St. Leonard’s Place, York, YO1 7HD or visit our fundraising site at www.justgiving.com/YTRteam.
