************************* York Theatre Royal, the National Railway Museum (NRM) and First TransPennine Express are looking for budding young artists and designers under 16 years old to put children’s classic ‘The Railway Children’ in the picture. The three partners are hoping the region’s wannabe artists will be able to come up with an image to help them advertise the forthcoming exciting production of The Railway Children at the NRM from 18 July-23 August. The winning design will be printed on large posters which will be displayed on the platforms at several local railway stations. The lucky winner will also receive tickets to see the live theatre production of The Railway Children at its glitzy VIP night on Tuesday 22 July and a show programme. In addition the winner will receive complimentary rail tickets for a journey on any First TransPennine Express route and a picturesque ride on the Yorkshire Wheel at the NRM. The competition will be judged by local artist, Jake Attree. Jake has been artist in residence at York Theatre Royal and has recently exhibited work in the Theatre, as well as all over the UK. David Crocker, marketing manager for First TransPennine Express, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to have your design seen by thousands of people who travel to and from our railway stations every day. The story of the Railway Children has been loved for years and it is exciting to be involved in this way." To enter the competition you must be under 16. The poster can be a painting, drawing or collage, or can be produced using a computer. It must be A3 portrait size for printing purposes and must feature the title: ‘E. Nesbit’s The Railway Children’. There is no need to include booking details on the poster design, but make sure that all your contact details are on the back of the poster. The deadline for entries is Friday 23 May, and judging will be completed by 31 May. Unfortunately we will be unable to return artwork unless you include a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
