Lip Service, Britain’s favourite literary lunatics, Maggie Fox and Sue Ryding, will leave you shaken - with laughter - and stirred in a pacey pastiche of all things Bond in their brand new show, Jane Bond. In collaboration with the Duke’s, Lancaster, the show comes to York Theatre Royal from 27 November – 1 Dec.
Jane Bond juggles her work/life balance as a super mum with her role as Commander Jane Bond, super spy, fighting her arch-enemy Bowdry and his fluffy white rabbit, Bunny Galore. Her tasteful clutch bag is packed with girly gadgets - a compact which doubles as a miniature satellite dish, her perfume spray is a truth drug - and her lipstick, a pop-up helicopter for those occasions when you just have to get your highlights done in a hurry.
For the first time, Maggie and Sue have brought in a stuntman, who doubles unconvincingly as Jane in
drag to do all the manly stuff while Maggie nips home to give the kids their tea. In true Lip Service style, Jane Bond features lightning costume changes, cross-dressing, appalling puns and even worse wigs. Refreshing as a twist of lemon in the driest Martini, as sharp as a newly-pressed tuxedo, it is directed by Mark Chatterton and designed by Michael Holt.
Over the past 18 years Lip Service has established itself as one of the leading touring companies in the field of comedy. Joint Artistic Directors, Maggie Fox and Sue Ryding, have written and performed all the work produced by the Company. The pair have created a series of unforgettable characters, most notably Audrey and Olivia, Holmes and Watson, and Joyce and Betty (BBC2's Out and About series).
Previous Lip Service productions have included Horror for Wimps, Very Little Women, Withering Looks, a slice of life with the Brontë sisters, King Arthur & the Knights of the Occasional Table, Women on the Verger, an Aga Saga, which was nominated for a Manchester Evening News award, and Hector’s House.
Tickets for this hilarious production are priced between £9.00-£18.00, with tickets for Under 25s and Students at £5.00 and can be purchased at the York Theatre Royal Box Office or by calling 01904 623568 or visiting www.yorktheatreroyal.co.uk
