************************* Rising star, thirteen year old Jack Capstaff will be making his debut at York Theatre Royal for the forthcoming Shepherd Group Brass Band concert on Friday 9 February at 8.00pm. He will join prodigy, 17 year old Richard Peacock, on third row cornet. The boys have much in common. At the age of nine, both were inspired to take up the cornet by their respective Grandad and Uncle who used to play with the Rowntrees Band. Jack, who practises every day, says he “picked the cornet because the other instruments were too big for him!” After learning to play with the beginners, the boys followed a fast-track career to the Senior Band. “I’m loving every minute of it - when the band strikes up the feeling you get is outstanding” says Richard. One day he would love to play with the world famous Brighouse and Rastick Band." Jack wants to be a military musician and follow in the footsteps of his Grandad who used to play for Kings Own Light Infantry Band. He is taking lessons from Tim Oldroyd, former cornet player with Yorkshire Imperial, instrument maker and now musical director of Shepherd Group Brass Band. Under the baton of Tim, the band will entertain with a varied programme including ‘Aces High’, the famous Luftwaffe March from the equally famous film, ‘Battle of Britain’, and classics such as ‘Moon River’ from ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’. Both are featured on the band’s new CD. A Gershwin medley from the American Songbook, a cornet trio called ‘Buglers Holiday’ and a solo from prize-winning soprano cornet soloist, Ken Moxon, make for a great evening. Tickets for the Shepherd Group Brass Band are priced from £8.00-£10.00 (Under 25s and Students tickets £5.00), and can be purchased at the York Theatre Royal Box Office, by calling 01904 623568 or online at www.yorktheatreroyal.co.uk. **************************
