************************* After another successful year fans of the North's favourite pantomime will be delighted to know that Berwick Kaler and the rest of the gang are back from the 14 December – 3 February for a very special version of everyone’s favourite pantomime, Cinderella. There’ll be the obligatory rags into ball gowns and glass slippers (or should that be Doc Martens), but there’ll also be more than a few uproarious surprises thrown in for good measure. Confusion and chaos still reigns supreme over “Who is playing whom” in this year’s blockbuster pantomime at York Theatre Royal. Berwick Kaler has told his dog, he was born to play Cinderella: Martin Barrass has told his children (now in their mid 30s) that he is still young enough to play Prince Charming and David Leonard is at that awkward age when he cannot decide if we wants to play the Baron or Baroness, so he’s announced he’s playing both! Suzy Cooper just wants to compete with the lads and be noticed this year, so she’s negotiating to play the scene-stealing crocodile, the nephew Vincent Gray returns, but he’s not happy that he’s still working for Buttons! And finally after appearing 21 years ago as Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk, Sian Howard has finally found her way off the ring-road and makes her second appearance in the pantomime When the casting issues have been resolved what we can guarantee you is sumptuous new sets and costumes, the wackiest script yet, slapstick and belly laughs galore (with more water on stage that you saw in July!). As usual Cinderella will be packed with famous names – not in the panto, but watching it! Throughout all this anarchic hilarity, for the Babbies & Bairns who are under 20 (especially uni-students) the storyline remains intact! You will wear a beautiful gown (even the girls!), and go off to the ball in a coach pulled by 78 live ponies or however many we can get. This year’s pantomime will be a very special one for Berwick’s trusty sidekick Martin Barrass, as Cinderella will be his 21st pantomime at York Theatre Royal. Martin’s first appearance at York Theatre Royal was in Sinbad The Sailor in 1984. Since then he has become a firm favourite in York’s legendary pantomime. The pantomime, which has captured the hearts of the people in the North and beyond and annually attracts nearly 50,000 people every year, promises to be yet another unforgettable experience, filled with fun, laughter and more than a few surprises!
