************************* After the stunning successes of Guys and Dolls in May last year, the company are back with more fabulous sets, costumes and show-stopping numbers. This favourite of all the big American musicals is a Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, telling the romantic story of dashing cowboy Curly trying to win the heart of farm-girl Laurey…getting her away from heavy farm-hand Judd Fry who also has his eye on her! Leading Lady Toni Feetenby takes a back seat this time, as she is expecting a baby in August, Bethan Jones will be stepping in to play the lead part of Laurey with John Haigh as dashing cowboy Curly, Sam Coulson as the young and love-struck Will Parker and Anna Mitchelson playing Ado Annie. York Musical Theatre Company have been recruiting new young ‘cowboys’ to join the show, including a few new members from York Theatre Royal’s Youth Theatre, after their success earlier this year with Franz Kafka’s The Trial. Company director and musical director Paul Laidlaw is very excited about the production although as choreographer and musical director, he certainly has his work cut out with the big show-stopping numbers in the show. These include Oh What a Beautiful Mornin’, Surrey with the Fringe on Top, I Cain’t Say No and many more, not forgetting the smash-hit title song Oklahoma! The company have been going for over 100 years and recent successes such as Guys and Dolls, Annie Get Your Gun and Titanic: The Musical have earned them high acclaim in the city. This new production is sure to be another hit show for the company, so don’t miss it!
